For marketers, September marks a point to begin preparations for Q4, arguably the Super Bowl quarter to close out the year and set up for success and reflection heading into a new year.
What are some ways you can take the rest of September to reflect, gear up for Q4, and build in some recharge time? Take a read through our tips and start planning out what you can do now to finish this year on a high.
1. Conduct a Strategic Marketing Audit
Take time to review your current campaign results and marketing efforts across channels for Q3; are there any easy wins or tests you can identify to add to the queue this month for improvement? Cross-check all channels, metrics from Q3 so far, and start setting some initial goals or things you want to try out come Q4.
2. Strengthen Data & Analytics Skills
Prioritizing data and reporting skills can be such a game-changer for how you approach content and marketing campaigns overall. Take a course on analytics platforms or predictive insights to continue becoming a strong, well-rounded, data-driven marketer. There are tons of short yet impactful online courses on LinkedIn, Udemy, Coursera, and more. See what speaks to you.
3. Invest in Ongoing Education
Along the lines of the last point, focus on pursuing certifications, workshops, webinars, or online courses that can help you gain new learnings and networking opportunities, too. Many marketers still work from home, too, so this could be a great way to break up the norm of your daily routine and meet new people in your industry to bounce ideas around with.
4. Take Time for a Creative Recharge
Build in time on a weekly basis to just research, brainstorm, and let your creative ideas run wild. Go outside and step away from screens, collaborate over coffee with coworkers, or just scroll around your favorite channel and see what others are doing and if you can glean any inspiration! Have fun with it.
Looking Ahead
As we wrap up Q3 and head into the busy season of Q4, use the SMART criteria to set true goals that actually move the needle. Break down your targets by month for greater momentum and clarity, and make sure to reflect on the past quarter and identify what worked, what didn’t, and what new approaches you can try out.
You may need to pivot things to ensure you close the year with impact, but that’s okay; it’s all part of the process and learnings!
If you’re looking to add more self-care into your work routine, establish daily or weekly mini-habits and routines such as 15-minute learning blocks, short walks outside after lunch, regular creative brainstorm sessions with your team, or regular reporting reviews to drive continuous improvement.
The days will soon get shorter and darker, so prioritize self-care, mindfulness, and workspace resets to drive creativity and reduce any burnout; especially in the busyness of Q4.
Consistent self-improvement truly fuels our creativity, career advancement, and business growth as marketers. Give yourself a challenge and commit to one new habit, skill, or goal for September and beyond, and prioritize yourself. You won’t regret it!
